This past weekend, The EOP founders Brandon Nick and Donja R. Love spent the weekend in Atlanta, Georgia to see Janet Jackson for her #Unbreakable Tour. Nick is a die-hard fan. Love was not. That was until he saw her! Following her amazing performance, Love penned this letter to the legendary pop star:
I attended your #UnbreakableTour last night in Atlanta. Before I began, I have to be honest, I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I'm not your biggest fan. Wait, don't stop reading and curse me out in that soft, beautiful voice of yours - just, hear me out. I don't mean any shade. I just know there are so many people who can regurgitate the entire discography of your career from back to front. I'm not one of those people, but my life partner is.
He kinda worships the ground you walk on. Poetic Justice is his favorite movie. Often he'll pop quiz me with quotes and moments from the film. All For You, in his opinion, is the greatest pop song ever created. There is no debate on this with him. Trust me, I've tried and got shut down. Numerously.
He'd use to say, "Whenever Janet goes on tour I'm going to see her!" He's never seen you live before and wanted to since he was a little boy. So, when you announced your new album and tour he bought tickets as soon as they become available.
We live in New York, but you didn't have tickets in our city. Determined to see you, he purchased tickets in Atlanta, and rented a car.
We drove 15 hours, nonstop, for a two hour event. By the end of that drive I looked like 'Who Did It? And Why?' He looked like, 'Touch this skin, honey. Touch this skin, darling. Touch all of it.' The excitement he had for you was radiant.
The video attached to this letter is the manifestation of a little boy finally achieving one of his lifelong dreams. The joy that jumped off him, while you were performing, was infectious. I even found myself screaming, "Yesssss, Janet! Take my edges! They're yours!" I found myself happy. Seeing him recite every lyric, dance every routine, and smile a smile that reminded me why I fell in love with him was all the evidence I needed to know that you are a maker of magic. #BlackGirlMagic was leaping off your skin last night. That was amazing - seeing as though it was an outdoor theater, it was raining nonstop, and you still served as if it were your birthright.
I was blessed to stand by my partner as he caught some of your magic. It was amazing to see him so happy. Being a crybaby, I got extremely emotional knowing he was in such bliss.
Thank you for the power of your artistry, your eternal slayage - and making my love's dream come true.
